Grannies who know how to rock!


The Buranovskiye Babushki (Russian for "Buranovo Grannies") were the Russian group that came second in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, Azerbaijan. Although they did not win they have become hugely popular in Europe recording songs from the Beetles, such as “Let It Be”, in their own regional language of Udmurt.

What is unique about this group is they have not allowed their fame and fortune to alter their lives despite living in a poor, remote village in Eastern Russian. However, the money they do earn goes towards a fund they started in 2010 to rebuild their village church, which was destroyed during the Soviet Union era.
